Continuing Education Grant Program
Program Description and Application Form
An innovative program designed to provide grants to finance work-related,
continuing education for members of the Farragut West Knox Chamber
of Commerce has provided funding for dozens of grants since its
inception in 1999. Funds to support this member benefit are raised
through the Chamber's Fall 5K Run and the Annual Dinner/Auction.
This program offers owners and employees of Farragut West Knox
Chamber member businesses the opportunity to apply for grants which
will cover the cost of continuing education that will be of benefit
to their particular business.
Grant applications are included periodically with issues of the
newsletter. You may also request an application from the Chamber
office at 865-675-7057.
"Interest in these grants has ranged from computer courses
to credit courses toward a degree," Bettye Sisco, president
of the Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce, said. "We will
consider applications for any work-related course the member needs.
The possibilities are unlimited," she added.
"Our Chamber is very committed to ongoing education and we
believe that a program to improve and enhance the skills of the
existing workforce will offer great benefits to the business community
and the public it serves," Sisco commented. "Many employers
are interested in offering continuing education opportunities but
do not have the budget to do so. Our goal is to help them provide
this benefit for themselves or their employees."
Grants are evaluated by a committee established for that purpose
and are awarded to owners or employees of a Farragut West Knox Chamber
member business in good standing. Grants will only be made for educational
opportunities offered by Farragut West Knox Chamber members unless
a member can establish an educational need that could not be met
by a Chamber member.
Primary criteria for approving a request will be the anticipated
impact of the educational opportunity on the applicant's ability
to perform more effectively on the job. The Executive Committee
of the Chamber's Board of Directors evaluates applications and approves
awards.
"We are very proud of this program and expect to make ongoing
education a reality for a number of our members," Sisco concluded.
